DR. PETER M. NGATIA, Director of Learning Systems, Corporate AMREF

Dr. Peter Muchiri Ngatia is a 54 year old Kenyan. He is currently the Director of Learning Systems in Corporate AMREF and is responsible for the overall training and capacity building in AMREF Africa.  He has been directly and indirectly associated with AMREF for the last 20 years, holding such posts as:

  • Acting Director General of AMREF
  • Director of Programmes, AMREF
  • Country Director, Uganda         
  • Chief Technical Advisor, seconded to MoH Uganda by AMREF
  • Team Leader, Planning and Training Project, Uganda         
  • Regional Programme Officer, Regional Training Programme, Nairobi.  Conducted training in Somalia, Ethiopia, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda.

Prior to joining AMREF, Dr. Ngatia worked with the Ministry of Health, Kenya at Kenyatta National Hospital and the Kenya Medical Training Centre as a lecturer and Head of Faculty of Medical Education.

In his professional life, Dr. Ngatia has conducted numerous research projects, served short term consultancies and written for professional publications. His expertise in Health Development has been sought by Regional Ministries of Health, the World Bank, EU, UNESCO, WHO, Universities throughout Africa and in Europe and several international development agencies (Ireland Aid, CIDA, SIDA, USAID, etc).

Dr. Ngatia holds academic qualifications in Rehabilitation Medicine (BSc.), Medical Education and Public Health, and PhD in Medical Education, Planning and Development from the University of Alberta, Canada.
