The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD)

It is a VISION and STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR AFRICA's RENEWAL. NEPAD is designed to address the current challenges facing the African continent. Issues such as the escalating poverty levels, underdevelopment and the continued marginalisation of Africa needed a new radical intervention, spearheaded by African leaders, to develop a new Vision that would guarantee Africa's Renewal.

Commonwealth Secretariat

The Commonwealth has three intergovernmental organisations: the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commonwealth Foundation, and the Commonwealth of Learning.

Our Goal :

To strengthen health systems and programmes on HIV/AIDS, maternal mortality, infant mortality and managed migration of human resources in health.

Commonwealth Health Ministers meet annually in Geneva on the eve of the World Health Assembly (WHA) to discuss and agree on Commonwealth health priorities, which are then lobbied at the WHA. As the major block within the WHA, Commonwealth Health Ministers have a unique capacity to define and shape global health priorities.

The Approach :
The Health Section collaborates with governments, international organisations, civil society and other stakeholders to address the following priority areas:

· Combating HIV/AIDS
· Maternal health
· Infant health
· Managed migration of human resources in health

Launching, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat's Governance and Institutional Development Division (GIDD), a project to assist governments with contingency plans to mitigate the loss of staff in the public sector from HIV/AIDS.
Assisting countries to develop strategies and systems to manage migration of health professionals and implementation of the Code of Practice for the International Recruitment of Health Workers.

Commonwealth Business Council

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting established the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) in October 1997 to involve the private sector in the promotion of trade and investment. The CBC acts as a bridge for co-operation between business and government, concentrating on efforts to help remove barriers to trade, mobilise investment into Commonwealth countries, foster a good environment for business and investment, promote good practice in corporate governance and corporate citizenship, and facilitate the engagement of the private sector in information communication technology for development (ICT4D) initiatives, especially in least developed countries.

Save the Children

Save the Children fights for children in the UK and around the world who suffer from poverty, disease, injustice and violence. "We work with them to find lifelong answers to the problems they face".

Who we are:
Child-focused: Independent: Open: Collaborative: Accountable: A team: we value diversity in those who work for Save the Children. We have to balance many expectations, but we support each other and never lose sight of our shared purpose.

What do we do?
Emergency relief runs alongside long-term development and prevention work to help children, their families and communities to be self-sufficient. We learn from the reality of children's lives and campaign for solutions to the problems they face. We gain expertise through our projects around the world and use that knowledge to educate and advise others.
